Microsoft has already raised the prices of Xbox consoles and controllers in many regions. Now, Sony might do the same with the PlayStation (PS) 5. In its latest earnings report, Sony said PS5 price in the US could increase due to Trump’s tariffs.

PS5 price could increase in the US going forward

The company expects around 100 billion yen—roughly $680 million—in tariff-related costs this fiscal year. To offset that, Sony CFO Lin Tao said the company is considering “passing on” the impact to customers. Not to mention, this applies to PS5 and other products.

Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki also said U.S.-based PS5 production is now on the cards. He called local manufacturing an “efficient strategy” to work around the tariffs.

For the unitiated, this wouldn’t be the first price increase for the PS5. Just last month, Sony raised prices in the UK, Europe, and Australia. The PS5 Digital Edition now costs £40 more in the UK and €50 more in Europe. Sony also raised PS Plus subscription prices in several countries over the past few weeks.

Unlike previous console generations, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S prices have increased, not down, since launch. So far, Sony has sold 77.7 million PS5 consoles since 2020. It moved 18.5 million units in the last fiscal year alone.

Sales are slightly behind the PS4 when aligned by launch year, but software numbers are growing. Sony expects first-party sales to rise in the year ahead. If tariffs remain in place, and costs keep climbing, more price increase seem likely.
