New Windows 11 experience

With Windows 10 support ending in October 2025, Microsoft has quietly updated a support page detailing which Surface models are compatible with Windows 11—and which can’t. The page lists every Surface model that originally shipped with Windows 10.

If your device is on the list, you’ll either see a green check for Windows 11 support or a note saying it doesn’t meet the requirements. Remember, many newer models are eligible.

The Surface Laptop 2 and up, Surface Pro 6 and newer, and Surface Book 2 (with supported chips) all are eligible fore Windows 11 upgrade. However, several older ones aren’t eligible. These include the original Surface Book, Surface Pro 5, and Surface Studio (1st Gen).

  • Surface Book 2 (on 8th Gen Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5-8350U or i7-8650U processor only)
  • Surface Book 3
  • Surface Go 2

If your Surface model can’t be upgraded to Windows 11, Microsoft suggests buying a new PC, preferlbly the AI-powered Copilot + PCs that launched recently. The company also recently launched a 12-inch 2-in-1 Surface Pro tablet. You can check it out too.

While Microsoft is doing its bit to push users towards Windows 11, it hasn’t completely cutoff the support for Windows 10. Microsoft recently extended support for Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 until 2028.
