Microsoft has officially rolled out the revamped chat and channels experience in Microsoft Teams to all commercial users. First introduced in October and tested across millions of users through public and private previews, the update is now generally available and will soon reach users in Government and other cloud environments.

The revamped Teams chat and channels experience is now available to all commercial users

The revamped Microsoft Teams chat update ensures communication is faster, smarter, and easier to manage. “The new experience is designed to be simple by default… and powerful on demand,” said Noga Ronen, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Microsoft Teams.

The revamped Teams chat and channels experience also introduces a new message filtering system. Users can now sort conversations by Unread, Chat, Channels, Meetings, and Muted. A new @mention view collects all directed messages into one place, improving visibility.

For those who want more control, Microsoft now lets users create custom sections. These can include chats, channels, meetings, bots, or AI agents—organized exactly how the user prefers. The revamped experience also brings a unified message creation experience, letting users send messages to both chats and channels from a single interface.

Users can opt to go back to the old design

Although the revamped Teams chat and channels are visible by default, Microsoft is giving users flexibility. You can still return to the old layout, turn off previews, or display channels in a list.

Microsoft also hinted that features like threaded conversations would also be available with future updates. Not to forget, Microsoft Teams Mobile will add a game-changing content share button in June as well. So, make sure to keep an eye on that update.
