Remember when Nintendo got mad about leaked Nintendo Switch 2 designs? Now, the company has sued an accessory company called Genki for showing off 3D-printed mockups of Nintendo Switch 2 before the official reveal. Nintendo is suing Genki for trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising.
Nintendo sues Genki over leaking the designs of Switch 2 ahead of the official launch
Nintendo’s taking Genki to court in California for a bold move at CES 2025. In January, Genki displayed fake Nintendo Switch 2 models with Nintendo’s logos, stirring up fans. A post on Bluesky by Nintendeal says Nintendo’s lawsuit claims Genki confused people and used their brand wrong.
Genki’s boss, Edward Tsai, didn’t stop at the gaming console’s mock-ups. He told reporters he had a real Nintendo Switch 2 and showed videos of “matching” accessories. Well, Nintendo took a note of that too, and now charges him for showing 3D-printed mockups in the name of authentic Switch 2.
They even bragged about eight add-ons and spilled secret console details before Nintendo’s January 16, 2025, announcement. That’s gutsy. On May 2, 2025, Nintendo filed a 27-page lawsuit in California’s Central District Court, demanding that Genki stop selling, trash all Switch-related stuff, and pay up.
Genki has just 30 days to answer
Nintendo’s asking, did Genki snag a Nintendo Switch 2 illegally, or are they just lying about compatibility? With the Nintendo Switch 2 launching June 5, 2025, Genki’s got 30 days to answer. In a latest tweet on X, Genki notes, “we’re taking it seriously and working with legal counsel to respond thoughtfully.“
To catch you up, trouble started in December 2024 with Genki’s X posts about the “Switch 2 gear.” At CES, they showed a video with Nintendo’s logos. Later, they joked on X about sneaking into Nintendo’s Kyoto office and teased a “Genki Direct” like Nintendo’s events.
