Windows 10 KB5043131

Microsoft is rolling out Windows 10 build 19045.6029 (KB5061087) in the Release Preview Channel. It’s applicable to version 22H2. While the update isn’t packed with features, there’s one change that stands out, especially if you’re in the European Economic Area (EEA).

The update expands how Windows handles browser defaults in the EEA. When you switch your default browser using the Settings app, it now claims more file and link types—provided the browser supports them. The OS will also pin your new browser to the Taskbar and Start menu by default, unless you uncheck the new options before confirming the change.

There’s also a small but welcome improvement for .pdf file types. Browsers that register for PDFs can now offer a one-click option to become your default PDF viewer, simplifying the usual multi-step process.

Microsoft is also shipping a fresh version of curl—the built-in command-line tool for file transfers. Windows 10 now includes curl 8.14.1, the most recent stable release, which brings better performance and improved security.

Beyond that, the company says it resolved a long-standing bug that caused Remote Component Object Model (COM) activations to fail with a 0x8001011 error code. Moreover, you can check the full announcement here and get detailed information about bug fixes and more.
